I am curious as to thoughts on giving Neos this combined joint supplement. I give this daily to all of my dogs that are at least a year old:

Glucosamine Hydrochloride (from shellfish) 500 mg
Chondroitin Sulfate (from Bovine Trachea) 200 mg
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) 50 mg
Vitamin C (from Ascorbic Acid) 50 mg (aka Ester C)
Zinc 15 mg
Manganese 5 mg
Copper 2 mg.

This is per chewable for each 80 lbs of dog. It costs $22.00 a bottle for 120 liver flavored chewables at Petsmart. The one at Drs Foster and Smith with basically the same amount of active ingredients sells for close to $100.00 per bottle. The Foster and Smith one recommends 4 chewables for dogs over 100 lbs while the Petsmart one recommends two chewables for 160 lbs. They are for adult dogs only.

It is cheaper to go to walmart or any other store and buy human grade vitamins and minerals. I personally if my dogs have no issues with a limp etc give 1000 mg of C a day, and one super b complex, we also have glucosamine/chondroitin and fish oil capsuls. I give one of each. To get the dogs to take their vitamins we put it on a peanut butter sandwich, they love it.

Oh and almost forgot, Ani Flex GL in the powder. You get 2 lbs for about 22 to 25 dollars and one scoop per adult over their food a day has all they need.

I agree with Starr and Doc... But If it ain't broke don't try to fix it...

Ester C has for a long time been a firm favorite with this breed as far as joint vitamins go, I think most breeders use it.

I myself have give a concoction of cod liver oil, odourless garlic capsules and Ester C, If I don't give them supplements then I try to give them tuna in oil, raw eggs, chopped liver and chicken in their diets... as essentially correct feeding is the key issue but it's not always practical. Since moving to France I'm having major problems sourcing raw meat as the French seem to eat everything apart from the bones!!

I don't know if you have a Holland and Barrett in the USA but in the UK they are always having some sale or other on vitamins...

I should add that I only use injectable B complex occasionally like before surgery or when we make long drives. Aniflex GL and PRoBios is all I use for my dogs. ProBios is a probiotic and it help with digestion. I highly recommend using it especially for growing dogs. Helps in all aspects...
