So I brought Poe to the vet today for her rabies and asked if they might do a urinalysis also, while I was there. She's been peeing a lot, actually peeing a very little but ALL the time, and I wanted to make sure there was nothing up.
Turns out she has a UTI/Vaginitis (I forget what the vet actually called it, suffice to say it was an infection) and put her on antibiotics for 2 weeks. She said that seems to be fairly common in large breed puppies and that it didn't look too serious so that's all well and good. (glad I had them check though!!) I'm wondering if any of you have had this happen and/or if you found anything that was a trigger for infections like this so I can avoid them in the future. Thanks! "Mais tu ne dois pas l’oublier. When we brought Zelda home, we noticed she was peeing all the time, but not much, too. She had a urinary tract infection. Our vet said the puppy squats down their WOO WOO (as John eloquently put it) can touch the "dirty" ground. Fine enough, two week of meds and she was peeing a gallon at a time!
Cena had all the same symptoms. took her to the vet...UTI/Vagintits (sp?). he told us to get some vaginal creme from the store and "use as directed" or put Apple Cider Vinegar in her food daily..1 tablespoon. we did and it seemed to do the trick. no more slimy goo or green slimy goo. we keep it on hand now and give it to her 1-2xs a week as a preventive. if it would have gotten worse, of course we would have went to the store or just got antibiotics from the Doc. How would I know if she has Herpes?! That's a terrifying diagnosis!
All they said was that it looked like a urinary infection, would they have told me if it was herpes or is that a seperate test? "Mais tu ne dois pas l’oublier. Tu deviens responsable pour toujours de ce que tu as apprivoisé." - Le Petit Prince
the discharge our female neo had when she was a pup..was diagnosed as herpes and we were told if she didnt recieve a special injection right before she gave birth all the pups would either be born dead or die shorlt after birth,,, and this shot was only available in europe and wasnt legal in the states...i love living outside the law...right on the edge.........GRRRRRRRR the discharge was a green puss like slime coming out of her WOO WOO..and that she had gotten it from her mother and was passing it on to her offspring...on down the line ect ect
If your female got Herpes from her mother and you were told that her puppies would die because she had herpes.. then how did she live????
I could ask my vet in the a.m....I am taking in one of my cats.
STD are interesting...I would also take a look at how much skin she has there. My shepherd had extra skin around the area, and the urine kept getting caught and causing infections...I had a vulvaplasty done and no more infections. Kate and the zoo
OK Kate here is something to read and Im hoping you dont presume your dog will get the medical conditions because you have treated it early so it was good you did and you are learning as much as possible So here it is this site is also good for many other questions Click me lowchensaustralia.com But once you start reading you will probably be singing with the dawn chorus LOL
Lynn...I am a little confused by your post...But I may have made mine too short My shepherds vulvaplasty took place after, numerous unexplained unrinary infections...She would get an infection, go on antibiotics, be given a clean bill of health, and then it would start all over again...I think she had 5 or 6 infections before my vet suggested perhaps she had quite a bit of skin, and maybe that was what was causing the issue. We had a consult with a specialist and he agreed...She had quite a pocket that was trapping the urine...So the surgery took place. Kate and the zoo
